Sustainability Goals Versus Technical Challenges - What are we doing?
Provenance is a word more readily associated with the food we buy, so how much do you know about the products you work with, and supply to your customers? With many suppliers of all manner of products claiming to be the "manufacturer", are they producing their products in an ethical way, and can they back up their claim through hard evidence, or even a facilitate a factory visit?
More so, is your supplier of HTV addressing the ever increasing Environmental concerns head on, and aiming for a more sustainable future, with a firm action plan in place?
Read on below, for where we are today...
Dae Ha introduces Recycled Polyester, gains Environmental Certification, and eliminates UK waste to Landfill
As a global manufacturer, Dae Ha is very proud to introduce a world first in our industry, Recycled Blended Polyesters into all our Heat Transfer Vinyl, through the use of Recycled Blended Polyesters used in the PET Liners, backed up by certification from Control Union, who are focused on the sustainability of supply chains for industries such as food, bioenergy & textile markets.
Family-owned Dae Ha is an ethical business working hard towards greater sustainability, by introducing measures where the latest technology allows. Currently, HTV from fully sustainable sources, such as bamboo or bio-degradable films is not possible, as these films cannot withstand the temperatures required by the hot melt adhesives to ensure longevity of the transfers demanded by the end customer, as they are not heat stable (and therefore destroy the transfer) under heat pressing.
Here in the UK, we have eliminated all internal non-recyclable waste being sent to landfill, by using an “Energy from Waste” facility, which turns what would otherwise be landfill waste, into electricity for homes. During 2022, Dae Ha UK will aim to offer a service to customers, whereby they will ensure customer weeded HTV & PET Liner will be turned into energy, and not into landfill.
Looking to the future, the Dae Ha family are striving to be the first manufacturer who achieve the first truly sustainable / recyclable HTV, and will keep on investing in this area until we succeed, and the use of recycled polyesters in all our HTV, makes us a proud leader in the manufacturing of Heat Transfer Films.

100% Recyclable or Biodegradable Packaging
Dae Ha only use packaging which is 100% recyclable, or biodegradable, with all packaging arriving from our manufacturing facilities in Korea, re-purposed.
For weeded material, because they contain adhesives they have a similar effect as regular adhesive tape / packaging tape whereby they will gum up the recycling machines, so not accepted by recycling centres. This also applies to all HTV produced globally.
The same applies to adhesive coated PET Release (carrier) Films, as in effect, they are very similar to adhesive tape. The exceptions being the PET Liner on our Printable PU Films and also on Classic Flex which can be recycled, as there are no adhesives on their PET Liners. All HTV must be removed from the PET Liner before recycling.
Dae Ha Korea use the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company SGS . We carry out SGS testing to show the amount of heavy metals (lead for example), formaldehyde and other substances such as Phthalates etc, that are within our HTV. These test certificates allow for our products to be used in global textile manufacturing, with full disclosure. SGS reports can be found on each respective product page.me HTV manufacturers use Okeo-Tex, mainly the European based ones)
EN71-3:2019 - Certification is being rolled out across our range.
EN71-3 Total Migratable Screening – this is a preliminary screening that looks at the total migration of all the families of heavy metals listed. The result is a detailed report that can be used to demonstrate compliance.
We'll update this page as we continue our journey to greater sustainability.
